Commitment to protecting your information
Emu Trekkers is committed to using your information responsibly. We are guided by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles, as well as the NSW Health Privacy Principles.
This Privacy Policy helps you understand why and how we collect and use your personal information, and what to do if you have questions, concerns or complaints. You are in control of the personal information you provide us. You can change or request access to your details at any time.
What information do we collect?
Emu Trekkers regularly asks for information that helps us engage with you, such as to assist with your participation in our tours or to process a payment or donation and provide you with a receipt. It is your choice how much information you wish provide, although we may not be able to provide a requested service to you if you do not provide some of the information requested.
If you are participating on a tour with us, you may also be required to provide some basic health information for the purposes of allowing our guides to determine if you have sufficient capacity to complete the activity and arrange risk management strategies if applicable.
Below are some examples of what information we commonly collect:
In most cases, we’ll ask you for this information directly (for example by asking you to complete a form), however some information is collected automatically (like online activity by visitors to our website) or from another source (like obtaining details for potential future supporters from like-minded organisations or third-party suppliers).
How do we secure and store your information?
We keep most of your personal information electronically in our supporter database, with the exception of payment data (discussed below). Physical copies of your information, such as participant information forms, are kept securely and destroyed if not needed. Staff and volunteers are required to sign our policies relating to privacy.
Sometimes we may need to store or use your information in a country other than Australia, usually because one of our technical systems uses cloud technology and is located or needs to process data overseas (for instance, social media channels). As of the last update of this policy, the countries in which we use data include:
Data transferred using the payment gateway provided on the Emu Trekkers website is secured with an industry-standard SSL certificate. No credit card details are stored or processed by Emu Trekkers Ltd.
How do we use this information?
We collect personal information in order to fulfil our core work: offering outdoor activities, raising awareness, fundraising, and informing you about all our activities and charitable work. We occasionally require external suppliers to assist us in our activities, and may provide your information to them in order to achieve these.
From time to time, we may also use your details to send you information on behalf of like-minded organisations that you may be interested in supporting as a donor or customer. Your details will not be provided to them, and only the information you supply to them directly will be collected for their records.
Online Activity and Social Media
